Published: 31.03.2025

The Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik and the Technical Museum of Slovenia invite you

on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 6:00 PM, to the Technical Museum of Slovenia in Bistra near Vrhnika

for the opening of a temporary guest exhibition and a conversation with former motorcycle racer Janko Štefe

Janko Štefe was one of the most recognizable motorcycle racers in Europe during the 1960s and 1970s. In the 50cc and 125cc categories, he regularly won titles of Yugoslav National Champion and was also the first Slovenian to earn points at prestigious World Cup races. His racing career is closely connected with the Tomos factory in Koper, where his potential was soon recognized, and he was included in the factory team. As a factory rider, he dominated the tracks with the legendary Tomos D5, D7, D9, and D6 racing motorcycles.

Štefe is celebrating a significant personal anniversary this year. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, we will look back on his successful racing career with Štefe and the author of the temporary exhibition, Marko Kumer, reflecting on his experiences with Tomos special motorcycles and reliving the time when races took place on regular roads in front of thousands of fans, and when 50cc racing bikes reached breathtaking speeds.
