Thonet's Furniture
It shows the unique inventiveness of Michael Thonet, who drove the method of wood bending from handicraft to industry. His products from bentwood were a fashion hit in interior decoration from the middle of the 19th century till the end of World War I, and were found in bourgeoisie apartments, coffee houses, inns, peasants’ homes, as well as in castles. After the patent expired in 1869, factories were established throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as well as others also in Slovenia, amongst which, the factory in Duplica, near Kamnik, operated the longest.
