Katarina Spacal – Woven paintings
After graduating from high school in Ljubljana, Katarina Spacal (1978) enrolled in the study of textile and clothing design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana in 1996. In 2001 she graduated with honours from Professor Darko Slavec and obtained the title of university graduate engineer of textile and clothing design.
She dedicated herself to unique weaving on hand looms. After graduating, she created only woven wall paintings, and today, in addition to those that are the starting point for further creation, she also weaves useful interior products and various fashion accessories. She exhibits individually and in groups both at home and abroad. She lives and works in Kostanjevica na Krasu.
This time, Katarina Spacal presents her works in the View Gallery with the exhibition Woven paintings, where we can follow her textile paintings, which lead us through karst areas where the author is constantly looking for and finding her inspiration.
»… It is therefore a traditional method, but it creates a completely modern image of the landscape, which winds in Karst tones and connects with many artists who have taken the Karst for themselves, as their inexhaustible source of inspiration. In fact, the method of weaving can also be understood as the author’s personal space, because an individual work takes a long process of creation, endless drawing of threads that over time create patterns, surfaces, create an image, become a story, but it is always a space for the artist’s contemplation…«
