Janko Štefe is a native of Trzin, he has lived in this place since birth. In the period between 1960-1970, he was one of the most recognizable and best athletes of the former common state of Yugoslavia. He was the national champion nine times, and won his first points for the world championship in races abroad. He brought the love of motorcycles to the world. From a young age it was clear to him that his heart beat for speed, for racing and for motorbikes. Štefe claims that a good racer is not made, but born. You have to have the speed gene in you, use it with your mother’s milk, you have to be born for speed. Not everyone who has the will and money to buy the most powerful motorcycle can be a racer.

Janko Štefe was not only a racer, he was an icon of the time when races were held on ordinary roads, among enthusiastic crowds. His races attracted thousands of spectators and his successes inspired younger generations of racers. Today, his achievements are recorded in the history of Slovenian and Yugoslav motor sports, where he is still considered one of the best racers of his era.

With the booklet and the exhibition, we want to pay tribute to a man who followed his heart all his life – his heart for racing.
