Princes of Hallstatt between Kamnik and Novo mesto
In the joint project we are participating the Kamnik Intermunicipal Museum, National Museum of Slovenia and the Dolenjski Museum Novo mesto. Each of us keeps a bronze helmet od Negau typ. Each of these helmets has behind them an extremely interesting story from the semi-past, a very special history and secrets that have been hidden from us for decades, even centuries, and which we only recently decoded.
We designed our exhibition in such a way that the stories of these helmets are the central theme and common thread. First, we present these stories to you and take you back to when they were found and what happened to them after they were plowed or dug out of the earth. To entice you to detective the secret paths of these special objects, we will not reveal their stories here.
Helmets are archaeological objects from the time between 450 and 350 BC. n. no. During this time, they were created and were part of the combat equipment of the male elite of the then Iron Age society. We get to know the place and time of their creation, the costume of the rich dignitaries of that time and their companions. We will briefly show you the time of the Iron Age, its characteristics and reveal how “Dolenjci” and “Kranjci” were connected at that time. Where the helmets were originally located, why they are usually found in graves, what condition they are found in, where all similar helmets are found, and why they are called Negau type helmets. We will reveal all of this to you at the exhibition and the specially designed accompanying catalogue.
