The International Museum Day 2019
The International Museum Day 2019 is dedicated to the theme Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition.
As ICOM wrote in the explanation of this year’s theme of the International Museum Day, the role of museums in society is changing. In their efforts to become more interactive, museums focus on the audience and the community, they become flexible and mobile. They have become cultural hubs that act as platforms where creativity combines with knowledge and where visitors can co-create, communicate and share their opinions. In preserving their primary tasks – collecting, taking care of heritage, communicating, exploring, setting up exhibitions – museums have redefined their work practices in order to get closer to communities.
Today they are asking questions and looking for innovative ways of solving contemporary social issues and conflicts. With local action, museums can also defend and mitigate global problems, while proactively tackling the challenges of today’s society. As institutions at the heart of society, museums have the power to establish dialogue between cultures, build bridges of peace and harmony, and define a sustainable future.
We invite you to visit all four units of the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik – the museum in the castle Zaprice, Rudolf Maister’s House, the Miha Maleš Gallery and the Gallery View.
In the evening, at 6 pm, you are especially invited to a concert of lively Brazilian music at Zaprice Castle in Kamnik. Slovenian jazz singer Ajda Stina Turek, who currently lives and works in New York and an excellent Ecuadorian violinist, violist and singer Gerson Eguiguren, will present themselves. They will perform Brazilian compositions by the most renowned authors, such as Djavan, Tom Jobim and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and add some songs in the Slovene and Spanish languages.
