Opening of the Slovenian majolica exhibition
Although the exhibition Slovenian Majolica has been on view since 18 November 2020, the Covid epidemic has prevented us from opening the exhibition and, due to the closure of museums, also visiting the exhibition.
With the joint project of the National Museum of Slovenia and the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik, we want to give Kamnik majolica the right place in Slovenia and Europe, and on the other hand encourage artists not to forget this part of intangible cultural heritage – knowledge, behaviour, skills of making and painting majolica. Because majolica has a special status in both the Kamnik and Slovenian traditions. It has become, so to speak, a mythological object, closely connected with the identity of the Slovene nation. As a symbol of good and happy company, it is sung by folk songs.
The exhibition is the work of the authors dr. Mateja Kos from NMS, Saša Bučan and Marko Kumer (MMK) and in collaboration with many colleagues: Irena Radej, mag. Andrej Dular, Tomislav Kajfež, Boris Radjenović, Saša Rudolf, dr. Zora Žbontar, photographer Tomaž Lauko, restaurateurs Janja Slabe, Ajda Purger, Tea Kregar, designers Ariana Furlan Prijon and Barbara Bogataj Kokalj and others.
The exhibition will be opened by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Kamnik, Mr. Bogdan Pogačar and presented dr. Mateja Kos from the National Museum of Slovenia.
You’re welcome.
