Museum summer night - concert of Dixieland Ensemble Celje
You will be able to enjoy the sounds of Dixieland at this year’s summer museum night.
Dixieland is a type of jazz that was first played by blacks and then taken over by whites. They were the only ones who then performed it. It developed in New Orleans at the beginning of the 20th century and by the following decade had spread greatly in New York, becoming very popular with a wider audience. It is also often recognized as the first true type of jazz, as it was the first to be called that (before 1917 it was also often spelled as jass). The name dixieland comes from the dixie currency used in the state of Louisiana, USA.
Among the best representatives of this music in our country is the Dixieland Ensemble Celje. They have been playing the music of their youth for almost a quarter of a century. At that time, they played Dixieland songs in particular, which is also reflected in the music of Louis Armstrong. The Celje Dixieland Ensemble consists of pianist Miran Antauer, guitarist and banjoist Jože Ratej, double bassist Peter Jeraj, drummer Luka Jahn, clarinetist Andrej Cimerman, trumpeter Žan Cesar and trombonist Gregor Vinko.
At their concerts, they present traditional Dixieland songs played in new arrangements, which are the work of the ensemble members. Band leader Andrej Cimerman also contributed the original composition Beda to their repertoire.
They will perform in Kamnik on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 8:30 p.m. at Zaprice Castle as part of the traditional summer museum night.
