Museum evening: dr. Borut Križ – Negau helmet from Novo Mesto
In 1975, 106 archaeological objects disappeared from the Dolenjski muzej in Novo mesto. Among them, the Negau helmet was taken in the “robbery of the century,” which is exhibited together with two similar ones at the exhibition The Secret Path of Negau Helmets.
What happened on that fateful July night in 1975? Who helped return the objects to Slovenia? Why are these items invaluable and extremely important? What would it mean for the Slovenian and European archaeological profession and our heritage if the objects were not found?
What does the helmet tell us about the prehistory of Dolenjska, what about its owner? Where else can we find them all? Why are they named after Negau?
All this and more will be revealed to you in an interesting lecture by the specialist for the Iron Age of the Dolenjska archeological profession, dr. Borut Križ.
