Maister Evening: Dr. Aleš Maver: Rudolf Maister among Military commanders in a turbulent Central Europe
Maister’s Evening: Dr. Aleš Maver – RUDOLF MAISTER AMONG MILITARY COMMANDERS IN A TURBULENT CENTRAL EUROPEAN ERA
In cooperation with the General Maister Society Kamnik
The purpose of the lecture is to place General Rudolf Maister in a broader Central European context. The outcome of World War I led to the dissolution of four large multinational states. New countries were formed, and new borders had to be drawn. During this turbulent and often chaotic period, Rudolf Maister, an officer in the army of the disintegrating Danubian monarchy, played a role in the Slovenian context similar to that of some other officers in neighboring regions. The lecturer will primarily focus on three figures: Hungarian Miklós Horthy, Polish Józef Piłsudski, and Slovak Milan Rastislav Štefánik. The lecture will outline their life stories, their actions, and their significance for the collective historical memory of the regions in which they operated.
The preparation of the lecture also involved Maj Horvat, a third-year student of history and art history at the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor.
