Lost ancient roman postal station
What was hiding underground in this once arable field today, what did archaeologists discover and how do they interpret it?
Very rarely, it takes only 6 years to go from archaeological research to the presentation, interpretation and musealisation of excavated material. In the winter of 2013, archaeologists researched so called Jerin’s field in Blagovica. A year later, in December 2014, the entire archives of the archaeological site, including all the finds, were handed over to Intermunicipal museum Kamnik for permanent storage. Dr. Ana Plestenjak and her colleagues have submitted an expert report and an expert article, which will be published in the book Smaller Roman Settlements in Slovenia, is just out of print. According to the network of museums, Intermunicipal museum Kamnik also covers the territory of the municipality of Lukovica. Being territorially responsible for storing material from this area, the decision to present this site was logical. First, it is a remarkably ancient location and new discoveries that remove some veils from the secrets of the Roman Postal Service.
The project was created with the cooperation of Arhej d. o. o. It was financially supported by the Municipality of Kamnik and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
