Landscape & Identity
On Wednesday, 15 June 2022, at 7 pm, we invite you again to the Birth House of Rudolf Maister at Šutna 23 in Kamnik. We will open a new occasional exhibition entitled Landscape & Identity: Geographical Names as Intangible Cultural Heritage, which will travel to Kamnik from Carinthia, Austria and will be on view at the Maister House until the beginning of 2023. The authors are coming from Slovene Ethnographic Institute Urban Jarnik in Celovec, mag. Martina Piko Rustia, and expert associate mag. Urši Sereinig.
The installation was the result of a collection of Slovene land and house names in Carinthia started more than ten years ago, initiated by Slovene local cultural associations and interest communities in cooperation with the Slovene Ethnographic Institute Urban Jarnik and central Slovene cultural organizations.
In 2010, the Austrian UNESCO Commission included the element “Slovenian glacial and house names” in the national list of intangible cultural heritage.
The traveling bilingual exhibition was part of the events marking the 100th anniversary of the Carinthian plebiscite in Carinthia, Austria, “Carinthia 2020”.
A short cultural program will also take place at the opening of the exhibition.
