Ivan Hribar
Ivan Hribar was one of the most deserving Slovenian politicians, diplomats, economists and publicists. Professionally, Ivan Hribar acted as an agent of the Czech insurance company Slavija in Ljubljana. Together with his political companion Ivan Tavčar, before the First World War, he was one of the leading figures of the Carniola Liberal People’s Progressive Party. From 1882 he was a member of the Ljubljana City Council, among which he led the construction of a water supply system, between 1896 and 1910 Ljubljana mayor and was credited with the earthquake reconstruction of Ljubljana. In the years 1889-1908 he was a Provincial Member of Carniola, and in 1907-1911 he was also a Member of the Austrian National Assembly. Prior to the First World War, he was among the leading representatives of neo-Orthodoxy. In 1919-1921, he was first ambassador to Prague, then in 1921-1923, he was a provincial deputy for Slovenia, and lastly from 1932-1938 a Yugoslav senator. He was known as a great patriot and a diligent, passionate political worker. Under the pseudonym, he also wrote and translated.
In the renovated Jefačnik homestead, we are opening a permanent exhibition of Ivan Hribar. The opening words will be addressed by the Mayor of the Trzin Municipality, Peter Ložar. The life and work of Ivan Hribar will be presented by the curator of the exhibition, mag. Zora Torkar.
