International Museum Day, May 18
As early as 1977, the ICOM International Museum Council marked May 18 as the International Museum Day, with the aim of raising the profile of museums in society and its development.
This year’s themes with which we present our contents to museums around the world are:
The power to achieve sustainability: Museums, as key players in their local communities, contribute to a number of objectives, including promoting sustainable development and the social economy, and disseminating scientific information on environmental challenges.
The power of innovation in digitization and accessibility: museums are innovative playgrounds where new technologies are developed. Digital innovations can make museums more accessible and attractive.
The power of community building through education: Museums connect society and build communities with their collections and programs. By supporting democratic values and providing opportunities for lifelong learning, they contribute to building an informed and engaged civil society.
You are cordially invited to free visits to exhibitions in all our units of the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik: the museum at Zaprice Castle, the Birth House of Rudolf Maister and the Miha Maleš Gallery.
