International Museum Day 2020
As early as 1977, the International Museum Council (ICOM) marked May 18 as International Museum Day, with the aim of raising the profile of museums in society and its development.
This year’s International Museum Day will be celebrated virtually by Slovenian museums within the MMD 2020 project. We will focus on the topic: “Museums and Equality: Diversity and Inclusion” (Museums and Equality: Diversity and Inclusion), which will also be the red thread of our joint virtual presentation. Among other things, the mission of museums is also to respond to social events and in innovative ways to present the movable cultural heritage to various groups of visitors, including by involving vulnerable groups.
ICOM Slovenia will present the participating Slovenian museums in a special virtual booklet, which will combine museum projects. The booklet will be published on the ICOM Slovenia website on Monday and distributed on the social networks of all participants.
In the field of program content implementation, MMK systematically takes care of opening new possibilities, acquainting and acquiring new knowledge about subjects and contents in the field of movable cultural heritage – with the aim of lifelong education and inclusion of vulnerable social groups in public life. This is how the Cultural Heritage project is created and is still being developed – a little for fun, a little for real. We have improved access to cultural heritage, designed pedagogical and andragogical programs in which they actively participate. While learning about heritage, we also learn something new and have fun at the same time.
However, on Monday, 18 May 2020, between 10 am and 6 pm, we invite you to a free visit to the museum at Zaprice Castle, Muzejska pot 3 in Kamnik.
