#forwardtothepast - december 2023
The joint online campaign of Slovenian museums and galleries, organized by SMS and the Service for Movable Heritage and Museums, called #forwardtothepast, shows every time how rich heritage, material and non-material, is kept and presented by Slovenian museums and galleries.
As various surveys have shown, museums are among the most trusted institutions. Museums play an important role in society. We are not only temples of heritage, but places of dialogue, socializing, change, meeting, critical thinking, acceptance and we could go on and on. And although we all usually want stories with a happy ending, positive stories, life and society sometimes take a different path. We have been talking about climate change and dealing with its consequences for many years. Unfortunately, these were visible again this year, when Slovenia had to face catastrophic floods. Climate change is happening, the consequences are already visible and turning a blind eye will not help. Museums as places of learning and knowledge help raise awareness in society. And that is precisely why we decided that this campaign will be held under very special slogans: #zimazimabela, #muzejintrajnostnirazvoj and #muzejindobropočutje.
We invite you to travel #forward to the past with us between December 4 and 10, 2023, to explore how it was and think with us about how it could be, what we can do for us, for our well-being, for nature and, as a result, inheritance.
In the Intermunicipal museum Kamnik, we have prepared an online announcement for you on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. trailer of the documentary film about Vlasto Kopač. On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Vlasto Kopač (1913-2006), author Janja Železnikar and art director Andreja Humar Gruden, produced by MMK, shed light on Kopač’s life and versatile activities of this too often ignored architect, conservator, designer, draftsman, and mountaineer.
