Gallery Evening: Dr. Vesna Krmelj: From the Youth Correspondence of Professor Dr. France Stele
At the gallery evening, Dr. Vesna Krmelj will present the correspondence of Dr. France Stele, an art historian, conservator, art critic, professor, and academic. From his early years in secondary school, he collected letters and correspondence sent to him by friends and acquaintances, later also by collaborators, writers, artists, and experts from all over the world. More than 12,000 letters have been preserved, with nearly 2,300 different correspondents, making this archive one of the larger correspondence collections held by the SAZU (Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts) and NUK (National and University Library). During the gallery evening, the lecturer will focus both on Stele’s epistolary work as a whole and on letters from his youth correspondence, especially those sent by his fellow villagers from Kamnik.

Maister Evening: dr. Pavlina Bobič: WAR AND FAITH
Dr. Bobič focuses on the question of Catholic faith and the role of the Catholic Church in shaping the spiritual and political atmosphere during World War I. Her work is based on the testimonies of soldiers and civilians, as well as letters from soldiers to their wives or girlfriends, which provide invaluable insight into the subjective construction of soldiers’ religious beliefs and show how these beliefs shaped their interpretation of the realities of war. A rich source of information includes contemporary newspapers and personal diaries, among which the diary of Ljubljana’s archbishop Anton B. Jeglič, one of the key figures of the time in Slovenia, is especially valuable.

Opening of the Exhibition NOTRANJSKA, ANOTHER MAISTER’S HOME
Coordinator and co-author: Alenka Juvan
Author: Franc V. Perko
Rudolf Maister used to visit his aunt Matilda and Lovrenc Sebenikar in Notranjska on holidays as a child. He later got to know her as a young man, a soldier and a mature man. He never broke his ties with her. He also died there in the hot July of 1934. The people of Notranjska never forgot their general and poet. The new temporary exhibition Notranjska, another Maister home will testify to all this in words and pictures.
