Dr. Borut Juvanec: The shepherd architecture in the Alps, with special reference to the architecture of Velika planina
Shepherding is when shepherds follow good forage into the mountains. They have to stay there, they take care of the safety of livestock, they are involved in cheese-making, and many more.
Mountain shepherd architecture can be made of stone and alpine is mostly wooden. It’s interesting a comparison of this architecture in all the Alps, and the most interesting buildings are far to the east, where shepherding is something else entirely. Shepherding is still alive and taking on new forms represents an important element of culture. Slovenia is exceptionally rich and has hidden things a wealth that we need to know, to be proud of and to represent as our heritage.
