Discussion and presentation of the book With Knowledge to the Stars

The Mountaineering Association of Slovenia and the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik kindly invite on the presentation of the book With Knowledge to the Stars – Slovenian School for Nepalese Mountain Guides, on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 6 pm at Zaprice Castle, Musejska pot 3 in Kamnik.

Slovenian climbers wrote two stories with a capital letter in Nepal in 1979 – they reached the top of Everest in a new direction and opened the door to a brighter and safer tomorrow with a school for Nepalese mountain guides in Manang. The bilingual monograph With Knowledge to the Stars – Slovenian School for Nepalese Mountain Guides, designed and edited by Mojca Volkar Trobevšek, is dedicated to the founder of the noble idea of ​​educating Nepalese locals Aleš Kunaver and many instructors and doctors who selflessly and voluntarily spent 40 years knowledge, experience and time and contributed their piece to the fact that today Nepal is a tourist developed country with well-educated guides and top alpinists who pass on their knowledge to new generations.

The book is enriched by numerous photographs from Manang, sketches and plans for the creation of the school, a brief history of Slovenian Himalayas in the Kunaver period and the school’s curriculum. It contains picturesque writings by Aleš and Dušica Kunaver, as well as highlights from the leaders and instructors of this school: Danilo Cedilnik – Den, Peter Markič, Bojan Pollak, Vladimir Mesarić – Dado, Vlado Schlamberger, Darja Jenko, Marjan Kregar, Jani Bele, Andrej Štremfelj and Matjaž Šerkezi and doctors Damijan Mešek and Anda Perdan. Matjaž Fistravec and Tone Škarja wrote about the mission. Zimba Zangbu Sherpa, Namgyal Zangbu Sherpa and Da Gombu Sherpa, however, removed the Nepalese side of the story.
