About castle gardeners. From the archives of the Rojc family from Hudo near Radomlje.

Zaprice Castle Museum and administration
When: 16.09.2020, from 18:00 to 19:00

Peter Rojc, a gardener, a pensioner from Hudo near Radomlje, will tell us at the museum evening that genealogy is an interesting hobby.

He will present his own, amateurish approach to the composition of the family tree. From sketch to computer printout. His first challenge was an old box full of faded photographs and slightly worn documents. Only a few images had useful data on the back. Unfortunately, the contemporaries of the depicted, who could explain something, have already left. The initial reliable source for him were the inscriptions on the tombstones. And then with perseverance obtained records from the archive’s registers.

While searching for roots and related branches, he found a number of interesting personalities: the painter Anton Rojec and as many as eleven gardeners. At least part of their lives were designers and arrangers of parks or larger gardens. They arranged gardens and parks in the nearby Souvan Park in Volčji Potok, near the manors of Novo Celje and Miramar near Trieste, not least the younger generation gardens in the Arboretum Volčji Potok and under the castle Zaprice, in the city garden Kamnik.

Peter Rojc set out on a professional gardening career as an apprentice at the Arboretum. He continued in Kočna, below the Zaprice castle. After a short work at the Mengeš Semenarna, he settled in Lek. First in the Mengeš plant, then until his retirement in Ljubljana.

He spends his free time, which he always lacks, playing sports and on a bicycle. He connects both culturally with his work in the Photo Club Mavrica. Since meeting Abraham, however, genealogy has been his joy and penance. He cooperates with the Slovenian Genealogical Society.

Due to the restrictions of the NIJZ due to COVID-19, registrations for the museum evening are mandatory. Write to: info@muzejkamnik.si or call: 01 8317 662.
