In Christianity it symbolizes the resurrection of Christ, including the drops of his blood, and for a few centuries it is part of the consecrated Easter dishes. In Slovenia, the decorating of eggs was established at the end of the 18th century.
Eggs are hard to boil, then they are dyed and adorned; but they can already be cooked in the dyestuff. The dye can be artificial or natural, for example leaves of red onions. In addition to boiled eggs, the egg shells can also be embellished. Different techniques of decorating, from dyeing, scratching, waxing was used in different regions of Slovenia.
