90th anniversary of cross-country skiing in Kamnik
On January 2, 1931, a ski section was established at the Kamnik Sports Club. Ivo Kumer, a versatile athlete, was elected president. He was one of the first in Kamnik to be involved in cross-country skiing, occasional ski jumping, cross-country, cycling and boxing. Among the first goals they set for themselves was the construction of a ski jump. A year later, a 30-meter ski jump was opened at the end of today’s Streliška Street. They also organized the first competitions in cross-country skiing. At that time, winters were still snowing in Kamnik, and matches were organized right on the streets of Kamnik, which had not yet been asphalted. The snow stayed on the sand longer. The start was on the Main Square as you can see in the attached photos. Among the best cross-country skiers was the president of the ski section, Ivo Kumer.
