The Feast of Rudolf Maister
Since 2005, November 23 is a Slovenian national holiday devoted to General Rudolf Maister, a fighter for the northern Slovenian border. A national holiday, which is not a day off, is dedicated to the memory of November 23, 1918, when Maister managed to disarm the Maribor City Guard with the help of volunteers.
Rudolf Maister was born on March 29, 1874 in Kamnik. He was general, poet, painter, bibliofil. He played a decisive role in the break-up of Austria-Hungary. In the years 1918 – 1919, he prevented his newly formed Slovene army from joining the German and Styrian region to Germany. In November and December 1918 Maister and his colleagues occupied the national border area in Styria.
You are invited to free tours of exhibitions and projections of films at Rudolf Maister’s Birth House in Kamnik.
