Rudolf Maister, one of the great figures in Slovenian history, who was born in 1874 in Kamnik to Frančiška and Franc Maister, moved frequently across the Austro-Hungarian Empire during his childhood due to his father’s job as a supervisor in the financial guard. He also moved often as an adult because of his military career, until in 1914, he settled in Maribor with his family.

From Rudolf’s childhood, the Maister family often visited their relatives, the Sebenikars, in Notranjska. First, on Rakek, and later in Unec, Rudolf’s mother’s sister Matilda and her husband Lovrenc had settled. They had a son, Adolf, who tragically died at the age of seven in Rakek. In 1887, Rudolf’s father, Franc Maister, passed away, leaving his mother Frančiška alone with two underage sons. At that time, Lovro Sebenikar became the official guardian of his nephews, Ernest and Rudolf.

When Rudolf Maister was forcibly retired in 1923, as evidenced by various documents and records from researchers and witnesses, he spent the winter, autumn, and spring months in Maribor, while his summers were usually spent in Unec, on the Sebenikar estate. In 1923, his aunt Matilda left the estate to his sons Hrvoje and Borut. It was in Unec where Rudolf Maister also passed away in 1934.
