Tadej Pogačar Behind the Big Stage

We are up-to-date in the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik. We follow the pulse of places and people; we don’t just browse the past, we also follow the present.

That is why this year we decided to present the story of Tadej Pogačar from behind the big stage. Everyone knows him as the greatest rider of today and he is not far short of becoming the best of all time (GOAT), but few have followed him over the years from the background.

Tadej’s fellow countryman, photographer, publisher, writer and many other things, France Stele, captured Tadej several times through the camera lens. He was a boy scout in his early years, he tried football and also ski jumping. In every sport he took up, he was combative, relentless and good. In everything, he liked to imitate his brother Tilno, who is responsible for Tadej cycling. At first they couldn’t find a bike that small for him, but today he isn’t fast enough for anyone to overtake him. France Stele depicted the events in Komenda in pictures and words. The iconic command crossing is always dressed in the color of the winning T-shirt that Tadej wins. The receptions that the municipality prepares in honor of Tadej are exciting and inspiring, but above all, joyful. The portraits of Tadej’s parents and other family members, as well as the numerous visitors to various races and events, reflect the emotions that overwhelm an individual upon meeting or just observing this modest boy who is unattainably fast.

The exhibition presents author’s photos and texts by France Stelet, from which a piece of the backstage and past of the young boy who grew into a champion of world fame is revealed. The work of the reviewer was taken over by Tadej’s father, Mirko Pogačar. The idea of ​​the exhibition and coordination is the work of Janja Železnikar, the design was taken over by Agata Stele, the Slovenian texts were proofread by Ana Gruden, translated into English by Nataša Gerič. The billboards were printed at the Element Printing House in Kamnik.
