Public tour of the visiting exhibition Carinthia (Un) divided country - 100 years after the plebiscite
On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 6 pm, we invite you to the Maister’s birthplace in Šutna in Kamnik for a guided tour of the occasional visiting exhibition Carinthia (Un) divided Country – 100 Years After the Plebiscite. The story of the Carinthian plebiscite on October 10, 1920 is presented by authors from the other side of Karavanke, Slovene Carinthians from Austria: the SKUP civil initiative, the Club of Slovene Students in Carinthia and the artist Karel Vouk. The historical part of the Carinthian plebiscite is presented in the film of the Carinthian Provincial Museum in Slovenj Gradec.
The public tour will be led by: mag. Sonja Kert Wakounig and mag. Rudi Vouk.
The exhibition offers a picture of how Slovenes live in Austrian Carinthia today, how many people still speak Slovene language etc. The diverse and diversified presentation of the situation in Slovenian Carinthia in Austria reveals to the visitor, in words and pictures, the past and present life of the autochthonous Slovenian population in Carinthia. Austria’s documents, contracts and false promises to Slovenes more than 100 years ago that they will be able to speak and live in their mother language are complemented by personal testimonies of individuals.
